Fido Overview:

  1. Introduction:
    Fido is Rogers' second-tier network, known for providing affordable and high-quality mobile plans.

    • Unlimited calls within Canada.
    • Free unlimited international text messaging.
    • International roaming: $12/day in the US, $15/day in other countries.
    • Advantage: You can change your number anytime. Often includes 1000 free international minutes to six countries (China, Hong Kong, UK, Bangladesh, India, Mexico).
    • Chinese customer service is available, making it convenient for users.
    • Disadvantage: Signal may be weaker in remote areas but generally fine in cities.
  2. Billing:
    Each customer has a unique billing cycle. Bills are sent via email, and payment is made after the bill is received.

    • First bill may be confusing as it typically includes an activation fee, a full monthly fee, prorated daily charges before the first full month, and taxes.

  3. Payment Methods:

    • Register on the Fido website or the Fido My Account app using your phone number and email.
    • You will receive an email reminder when the bill is issued. Log in, go to "Billing," click "View Bill," and then "Make Payment."
    • To set up automatic payment:
      • Go to the "Payment Method" option in the "Billing" menu and follow the instructions.

    • From a Fido number: Dial *88 and select 2 -> 1 -> 5 for the dedicated Chinese hotline.
    • From non-Fido numbers: Call 888-945-3436.

  5. Changing Your Fido Number:

    • The system assigns a random number when you activate your card. If you don’t like it, you can change it yourself after registering an account online or in the app:
      1. Log in to your Fido My Account at Fido.ca.
      2. Click "View Usage & Manage" next to the number you want to change.
      3. Scroll down to "Quick Actions" and click "Change My Number."
      4. Select the province and city, then "Find Available Numbers."
      5. Choose a number, click "Next," and follow the prompts.
      6. Confirm your new number.
  6. 5 Free Extra Hours of Data Per Month:

    • Fido users can enjoy 5 hours of free data monthly, not counted towards your plan’s total data.
    • To activate:
      • In the Fido My Account app, click "More" in the bottom-right corner.
      • At the top, you'll see "My 5 Extra Hours of Data History." Tap "Tap to start" to begin using.
  7. 1000 Minutes of Free International Calling:

    • Covers China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Bangladesh, India, UK, and Mexico.
    • Confirm with the salesperson if this benefit is included before activation.
    • Check your bill to confirm: Page 3 on the right side usually states “1000 International LD Minutes...”
  8. Suspension and Retention Policy (Subject to Change):

    • Price: $7/month + tax.
    • Maximum suspension duration: 185 days.
    • Must call customer service to activate this option.
